McDonald’s history in Greece started in November 1991, with the first restaurant located at the heart of Athens, at Syntagma. In 1995 the first Drive Thru opened its doors at Alimos, and was considered an innovation for the food retail sector. The expansion to islands started in 1999 with a McDonald’s restaurant opening in Rhodes and then continued with seasonal restaurants at other touristic destinations.

In 2011 the brand embarked on a new course, when the Maltese-owned company Premier Capital acquired the Developmental License for McDonald’s in Greece. Premier Capital Hellas is part of Premier Capital plc, the Developmental Licensee for McDonald’s in Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, and Romania.
